What is Compatibility Testing

Compatibility testing refers to a software testing to ensure compatibility of the system/application/website built with various other objects. For say, other web browsers, operating systems etc. In addition, this type of testing helps find out how well a system performs in a particular environment. It is the testing of application set up with the computing environment. To sum up, it tests whether the software set up is compatible with the hardware, database or other system software or not.

Reasons to failure

A common cause of software failure is a lack of compatibility with other application software, operating systems, or target environments. However, they differ greatly from the original such as a terminal or GUI application with a motive to run on the desktop now require to become a web application, which must render in a web browser.

For instance, in the case of a lack of backward compatibility, this can occur because the programmers develop and test software only on the latest version of the target environment, which not all users may be running.

This result in the inadvertent consequence that the latest work may not function on earlier versions of the target environment or on older hardware of the earlier versions of the target environment users in nature . Sometimes such issues require rectification by proactively abstracting operating system functionality into a separate program module or library.t
