Understanding Product Backlog

Product backlog refers to a tool where customers can record and prioritize their business requirements for each iteration. Moreover, it is a place where the project teams can record the progress of their work during each iteration against the following requirements.

Requirements 

• Firstly, it is a list of everything that should be there in the product. Also, it is the single source of requirements for any changes in the product.
• Secondly, it is dynamic in nature. In other words, it constantly changes to identify what the product needs to be appropriate, competitive, and useful. It contains broad descriptions of all required features, functions, enhancements, wish-list items, etc.
• After that, it is the property of the Product Owner. S/he is responsible for the content, and availability. Moreover, the product owner is responsible for the business value. However, the development effort is the team’s responsibility.
• In addition, it lists all features, functions, requirements, enhancements, and fixes that constitute the changes to be made to the product in future releases. Product Backlog items have the attributes of a description, order, estimate, and value.
• As the product gains value, the Product Backlog becomes a larger and more exhaustive list. Changes in business requirements, market conditions, or technology, cause changes in the Product Backlog, making it a live artifact.
• The items listed in the product can be updated at any time by the Product Owner.
