FACTORIES ACT, 1948

Factories act, 1948 is for the occupational safety and health of the employees, in factories in India.  It deals with a number of problems concerning the safety, efficiency, health, and the well being of the working employees.

This Ministry of labour and employment in India administers this act, through its: Directorate General Factory Advice Service & Labour Institutes (DGFASLI), and also by the State Governments through their factory inspectorates. This act is applicable to any factory wherein ten or more workers are employed.

Although this act covers the factories only and it restricts the working hours. Also, provides employment to the young aspirant including women. Thereafter provides with the spread of working hours and overtime.

 

What it prohibits?

Therefore, this act extends to the whole of India. The main aim and objective of this act is to safeguard the employees and protect them from the exploitation at the workplace.
