Equal Remuneration Act, 1976
This equal remuneration Act, 1976 regulates the equal participation of women in the work field. The main target of this act is to keep an eye for the payment of equal remuneration to both men and women. The Act eliminates the discrimination against women workers while recruiting the workers for the work of similar nature. This includes all the conditions of the services subsequent to recruitment. Also, the provision of the Act extends to all categories of employment. Therefore the Act extends to whole of India.
The main definitions it involves:
- The appropriate Government- the appropriate government is the high authority of the act, and it can be any one from the State government or the central government, in relation to some banking company, in relation to some employment under the state government, railway administration.
- Man and Woman- this means the human beings, irrespective of their age.
- Remuneration- this means the basic wage or salary, and any other payable thing, either in the form of cash or kind, to a person employed. In respect of the work or employment. If it fulfils the terms and conditions of the employment.
- Work of a similar nature- this means the work in respect of which the skill, responsibility, and efforts required are the same. When performed by both men and women under the similar working conditions. Even if there is some difference in the skills, efforts, and the responsibility required of a man those of women. Still they aren’t of practical importance, in relation to the employment’s terms and conditions.
