The following \u00a0shows the six<br \/>\nlevels of interpretation\u00a0 (technical,<br \/>\nand conceptual) and the evaluated standardization efforts (DIS, HLA, BOM,<br \/>\nXML, RDFS, OWL &#8211; S) to show the degree of support of<br \/>\ninterpretation, and ability to compose as defined in the LCIM can be provided.<br \/>\nThe dark gray fields indicate that this level of interpretation\u00a0is well covered<br \/>\nby the respective approach. The light gray fields indicate that the standard<br \/>\ncomprises means to cope with challenges of this level, but not sufficiently to<br \/>\nallow for unambiguous solution.<br \/>\nThe justifications for the shades shown \u00a0are as follows:<br \/>\n(1) DIS uses established infrastructures like Ethernet or Token Rings and<br \/>\nestablished Web protocols to ensure the technical connectivity. The<br \/>\ndefinition of PDUs ensure unambiguous syntax and semantic. However,<br \/>\nwhich PDUs can be sent to whom in which context (pragmatic) and<br \/>\nhow the system reacts (dynamics) are not part of<br \/>\nthere is room to capture agreements. The conceptual assumptions and<br \/>\nconstraints, however, are not covered.<br \/>\n(2) HLA has means to support all levels of interpretation, but only the<br \/>\nlower levels are standardized. As DIS, the technical level is supported<br \/>\nby using established protocols. The HLA OMT unambiguously defines CURRENT\u00a0interpretation STANDARD SOLUTIONS<br \/>\n(3)<\/p>\n<p>the syntax. However, as no common data model is given (on purpose,<br \/>\nin order to be able to support all M &amp; S application domains and<br \/>\nareas), every level from the semantic level must be agreed to and<br \/>\ndocumented in the artifacts provided by the HLA. Unfortunately, these<br \/>\nartifacts are not mandatory, so that the upper layers are not supported<br \/>\nunambiguously.<br \/>\nBOM evaluated the lessons learned from DIS and HLA and introduced<br \/>\nan extension of necessary artifacts in the form of the BOM template<br \/>\nthat requires to identify the conceptual entities and events (semantics),<br \/>\nresulting state changes in the entities (dynamic), and the patterns of<br \/>\ninterplay (pragmatic) for the higher levels of interpretation. The<br \/>\nmapping connects these to the syntactically consistent representations<br \/>\nin the services or components represented by the BOM.
