{"id":17680,"date":"2014-10-31T05:51:39","date_gmt":"2014-10-31T05:51:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/vskills.in\/certification\/blog\/?p=17680"},"modified":"2024-04-03T13:14:34","modified_gmt":"2024-04-03T07:44:34","slug":"conflict-handling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vskills.in\/certification\/blog\/conflict-handling\/","title":{"rendered":"CONFLICT HANDLING"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a ref=\"magnificPopup\" href=\"http:\/\/vskills.in\/certification\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/conflict-handling.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-17728\" src=\"http:\/\/vskills.in\/certification\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/conflict-handling.jpg\" alt=\"conflict-handling\" width=\"250\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Whenever there is a conflict, 4 kinds of people emerge out:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Competitors \u2013 people whose primary motive is doing better than others; beating them in open competition.<\/li>\n<li>Individualists \u2013 people who care almost exclusively about maximizing their own gain and they do not care whether others do better or worse than they do.<\/li>\n<li>Co-operators \u2013 people who are concerned with maximizing combined outcomes, getting as much as possible for their team.<\/li>\n<li>Equalizers \u2013 people who are primarily interested in minimizing the differences between themselves and others.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>There are two kinds of conflicts:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Functional \u2013 positive conflict that allows people to think better; supports the goals of the group and improves its performance.<\/li>\n<li>Dysfunctional \u2013 the conflict that hinders the group performance<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The various stages of the conflict process are:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Potential opposition or incompatibility<\/li>\n<li>Cognition and personalization<\/li>\n<li>Intentions<\/li>\n<li>Behavior<\/li>\n<li>Outcomes<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The graph for dimensions of conflict handling intentions can be plotted between assertiveness and cooperativeness.<\/p>\n<p>The five behaviors that exist are:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Avoiding \u2013 assertiveness \u2013 low, cooperativeness \u2013 low<\/li>\n<li>Accommodating \u2013 assertiveness \u2013 low, cooperativeness \u2013 high<\/li>\n<li>Compromising \u2013 assertiveness \u2013 moderate, cooperativeness \u2013 moderate<\/li>\n<li>Compelling \u2013 assertiveness \u2013 high, cooperativeness \u2013 low<\/li>\n<li>Collaborating &#8211; assertiveness \u2013 high, cooperativeness \u2013 high<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Conflict can occur within an organization if there are disagreement and inconsistency between the two parties involved in the conflict. Conflicts can be based on interpersonal relationships, on the processes that one follows to accomplish various tasks, etc. They can occur due to poor skills, weak relationships, frustrated needs, unequal power, disputed rights, conflicting interests, etc. Conflicts should be avoided as much as possible but if a conflict occurs, mediators, arbitrators, equalizers or healers are needed to resolve them. Negotiations and bargaining can also help to resolve them.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Negotiation \u2013 it is a process in which two or more parties attempt to resolve a specific issue.<\/li>\n<li>Bargaining \u2013 it is an integral part of the negotiation.
