A language is a medium of communication between two things, living or non-living. Imagine a world without any languages, communication won’t exist. Humans are a developed species and communication is necessity for development. Just like two people communicate, computers also communicate(they have a brain too, sort of). A programming language in simple terms, is a way of communicating with a computer. We can give instructions to any machine and not just a computer, using a programming language. Of course, just like we have various languages like Hindi, English, Spanish etc, more than one programming languages have been developed too, each having different usage and features.

Programming languages are quite similar to our normal languages, yet completely different. Some famous ones are C, C++, Java, JavaScript, HTML, Python, PHP, Ruby and many more among the thousands developed. Just like Latin(or Greek, or Sanskrit, whichever one you find unobjectionable) is considered the mother of all modern languages, similarly C is considered the mother of all modern programming languages. Why ? It will be discussed in my following posts. It was developed by Dennis Ritchie of AT& T Bell Labs in the early 1980s and is one of the most widely used programming language.

#FACT : Even before computers were invented in the twentieth century, programming existed. There were two kinds of programming languages: formal and informal, depending upon what the developer was wearing at the time the language was written.
